Project Size: 6,000 square feet
Although AIB College of Business has been a fixture in Des Moines since 1921, it was only in 2010 that the school became a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and began ramping up its sports programs. With women’s basketball and volleyball teams and men’s and women’s golf and soccer teams established, AIB decided to launch a men’s basketball team in the fall of 2011 – but first it needed to expand its athletic facilities.
Story Construction served as the general contractor on this job to build a 6,000-square-foot, two-story addition onto the AIB Activities Center that was constructed in 2008. In addition to erecting the structure that consists of a CMU wall system with brick veneer, tinted glass and columns to match the existing facility’s exterior, the project required the demolition and relocation of existing storm sewers and additions to the sanitary sewer. Inside, the first floor of the addition houses new locker rooms, while the second level includes a weight room and fitness center.
