Representatives from Story Construction and its design-build subsidiary, Story Design, Ltd., joined staff and board members of WesleyLife and members of the community at a groundbreaking ceremony on July 10 to mark the start of construction on the WesleyLife Adult Day Center building expansion project in Des Moines.
The project, which will double the existing Adult Day Center’s capacity and enable it to serve 60-65 individuals per day, includes building a 4,850-square-foot, single-story addition and remodeling 1,360 square feet of connected space, as well as extensive site changes. When completed, the new Adult Day Center will offer a living room, art studio, fitness room, library with computer workstations, a residential-style kitchen and dining areas, multi-purpose rooms and office space. Construction is expected to be completed by October 2012.
The WesleyLife Adult Day Center has served the Des Moines community for more than 20 years, providing care for individuals with memory loss and mobility and self-care limitations. The center currently serves more than 800 families per year, enabling older adults to live at home or with their loved ones instead of having to relocate to institutional settings for care. WesleyLife's Adult Day Center is the only such center in Des Moines.
