The construction management-agent (CM-agent) delivery system has proven to be very beneficial when it comes to building projects for public schools. Not only does a CM-agent bring construction expertise to school projects that results in improved quality, but the process can also maximize cost-reduction opportunities and help districts with limited staff and resources ensure their project is successfully completed on schedule and within budget.
In 2003, the Norwalk Community School District selected Story to serve as its CM-agent and oversee a $1.3 million addition and renovation project at one of its elementary schools. The successful completion of that project led the district to again select Story in 2007 and 2010 for larger, more complex projects. Most recently, Norwalk selected Story to oversee its $15.5 million Fine Arts Addition & Athletic Facilities Improvement Project at Norwalk High School. This white paper uses that project as a case study to detail the process and explain the benefits of the CM-agent construction delivery system for public schools.
